The Magic of an Entry Way

It’s a shame when people undervalue the creative opportunity that comes with a door. Doors are often the first introduction to a new space, so it’s worth making them special. They can set an atmosphere or help direct the eye towards matching materials and textures. Combined with a creative art project, they can become something people want to look at, rather than merely pass through. Why shouldn’t practical be aesthetic?

To give you an idea of some of the creative opportunities available to you with custom interior and exterior doors, we collected some of our favorite projects.

The McCarty Project

This ultra-contemporary home allowed us some great opportunities to create some really different, really stunning doors. The client wanted sliding doors (sometimes referred to as sliding barn doors) leading into their bedroom. A traditional rustic looking door wouldn’t really fit in this home, though, and so we brought their vision to life a different way.

Each door is 8 foot tall by 4 feet wide and while they each look gorgeous in their own right, when closed they come together to form an 8 foot by 8 foot painting. To achieve this look, we used a vinyl wrap on the sides of the doors facing the living room. If you want to have an open house, you can leave the doors open, showcasing the master bedroom. If you want more privacy, simply shut them and showcase the complete artwork instead.

This home did opt for one wood-style door: a beautiful walnut front entrance that matches the interior walnut stair threads. It ties in the minimal wood finishes and creates a cohesiveness as you enter the home.

Wildwood Ranch Doors

This client wanted to spruce up a dated apartment by creating an updated rustic cabin feel. We achieved this by adding two sliding barn doors between the living room and the bedrooms, with a matching style swing door to the bathroom. In a small space, sliding doors are a great way to balance openness and privacy. Since they can more easily cover large spaces, sliding barn doors can serve as moveable walls, making it easy to open up space during the day or for entertaining guests and then shut yourself in for sleep.

River Barn Doors

We recently showcased these doors, so we won’t go into too much detail on them here. We did want to include the speakeasy door to highlight how reclaimed wood can be a gorgeous asset and also how little creative custom tweaks can bring a whole new life to a door.

This cabin door offers a unique feature with a little speakeasy pop open option up top.

We also created all of the interior doors for the cottage. We designed and created four doors in total that make use of reclaimed oak wood. We painted them with a distressed white and chocolate glaze and added white stripes for a veined look. The end result is a warm, textured door that ties in different accents of the space without overwhelming it.

Quincy Hotel

This hotel wanted to do something fun with their restrooms and we were happy to oblige. We created custom stall doors that play into their overall theme. Customers love when they find unexpected surprises in ordinary places, and these doors do a great job of achieving that.

Broken Arrow

This hotel wanted custom sliding doors for their suites. It was a great option to make the rooms extra special by investing in making functionality an art piece.
