Upgrading a Hotel’s Look with Custom Writing Desks

We frequently work with hotels, ranging in project scope from complete redesigns to custom built furniture. We love the unique challenge of matching a new piece with existing décor, creating a cohesive final look. Recently, we started work on 50 new writing desks for a hotel. The client wanted to upgrade the ones they had, which had become worn and wobbly with age, with something that would complement the existing hotel room furniture.

Getting to Know the Casework

Before starting this type of project, our team does an inventory of the space. We visit the site, look at the existing hotel furniture, and take lot of pictures for reference when we’re back in the shop. Getting to see the site in person helps us to get a full feel of the place and make sure we’re not missing any important details before we start designing.

Designing Custom Woodworking Projects

Before we start building anything, we create a 3D design using our tools back in the shop. This lets us easily share our vision with the client so we can make any necessary adjustments before we start putting together any of the custom woodwork. Once we have approval, our team gets to work.

We’re looking forward to bringing this design to life.

For this custom woodworking project, the client wants the writing desks to fit the existing décor without blending into obscurity. To help ensure these pieces fit the overall look of the hotel room while still standing out as an attractive visual piece, we’ll be using hickory for the writing desk tabletops. The legs will be made out of reclaimed douglas fir lumber and we’ll use a distressed color on them to add a nice contrast to the hickory tops.

The hickory’s all here and ready to go!

Here are the reclaimed douglas fir legs we’ll be using.

We’re excited to bring these pieces to life! Make sure to check back in for updates as our team makes progress on building and installing these pieces.
